Your Day By Day Itinerary:
Day 1- Arrive Zagreb (3 nights)
On arrival pick up your rental vehicle and check into your Zagreb accommodation.
Day 2 - Zagreb sightseeing
This morning join your chosen guided tour of Zagreb including St Marks Church, Lower & Upper town, Lotrscak Tower and the Cathedral. Then, perhaps visit Medvedgrad castle high in the Medvendnica mountains. (B)
Day 3 - Trakoscan Castle & Varazdin
Leave the city today for a visit to 13th century Trakoscan Castle. Take some time to stroll around the beautiful gardens and lake before moving on to Varazdin to visit Stari Grad and castle in the heart of this picturesque city. (B)
Day 4 - Zagreb - Plitvice Lakes
Today leave Zagreb and head for the beautiful Plitvice National Park. The sixteen lakes in the park are inter-connected by 92 waterfalls and are surrounded by dense woodland. (B)
Day 5 - Plitvice Lakes - Split (2 nights)
This morning walk the lower lakes. Premium passengers will receive a fully guided tour. Then to the Adriatic coast and Split, with its 3rdC Palace of Diocletian, a World Heritage site. (B)
Day 6 - Split at leisure
Today is yours to discover Split and surrounds. You may wish to drive to Solin where you can visit the Roman ruins before continuing around the Kastel Bay to Trogir and on to the beautiful village of Primosten which makes an excellent stop for lunch. Continue to Skardin and Krka National Park to visit the famous waterfalls. (B)
Day 7 - Split - Dubrovnik (3 nights)
Today south to Dubrovnik the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’. Continue down the coast road passing many idyllic villages along the way. (B)
Day 8 - Dubrovnik sightseeing
Today join “your choice” sightseeing of the beautiful Old Town of Dubrovnik including a walk on the ancient city walls and a visit to the Rector’s Palace and Dominican Monastery. (B)
Day 9 - Dubrovnik at leisure
Perhaps see some of the nearby islands on a day excursion to the Elephite islands. (B)
Day 10 - Dubrovnik - Hvar (2 nights)
Depart for Drvenik to join the car ferry to Sucuraj on beautiful Hvar island. Suggested departure times are 11:45 or 13:30. Then drive to Hvar town, your home for the next two nights. (B)
Day 11 - Hvar town at leisure
Discover the old town and possibly take a drive through the famous lavender fields. (B)
Day 12 - Hvar - Zadar (1 night)
Leave Hvar town this morning for Stari Grad and your ferry to Split. On arrival, drive north to your overnight stop, Zadar. Tonight take a stroll along the seafront to see the unique ‘Sea Organ’ and Monument to the Sun. (B)
Day 13 - Zadar - Opatija (2 nights)
After breakfast depart Zadar, north along the coast. This is one of Croatia’s most picturesque drives and well worth the additional time over the quicker motorway route. The drive passes the Paklenica and Velebit National Parks on one side and views across to Pag Island on the other. Continue to Opatija on the Istrian peninsula. (B)
Day 14 - Istria Excursion
First drive to Labin to visit the sculpture park in Dubrova. Continue to the ancient Roman town of Pula and visit the impressive amphitheatre. Continue to the beautiful fishing town of Rovinj. Rovinj has an active artist colony and you can spend time wandering the many galleries and perhaps come across an artist by the harbour.
Afterwards, continue to Porec to view the wonderful frescos at the Euphrasian Basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Then head inland to the stunning town of Motovun where you will have time to wander the many galleries. The area is well known for its truffles and perhaps you may wish to sample some of Istria’s famous culinary art by trying a truffle omelette. Finally visit Beram to see the 14th century frescos in the church of St Mary before returning to Opatija. (B)
Day 15 - Opatija - Zagreb - Tour ends
Depart Istria for Zagreb returning your rental vehicle at the end of your tour. (B)
