Lakes Como and Garda sit like sparkling jewels in the shadows of the Swiss and Italian Alps. Stunning villas, magnifi cent gardens and a profusion of hydrangeas, camellias and azaleas grace the Como lake area, and Lake Garda is bordered by rocky peaks and snow-capped mountains.
Our walk leads through quaint villages and rolling hills always within sight of the distant snowy peaks. Vineyards and olive groves line the way and we stop to visit monuments of the area’s history.
Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive Milan, Italy.
Day 2
Orientation of Milan on foot visiting the Cathedral, the Galleria and the medieval castle. Transfer to Como and walk Old Como before travelling to Menaggio for overnight.
Day 3
Walk up into the mountains towards Rifugio Menaggio (1400m) for stunning views of the lake region.
Day 4
Boat trip to Tremezzo to discover one of the trip’s highlights, the Villa Carlotta. Continue to picturesque Bellaggio, “the pearl of the lake”, situated where the two arms of Lago di Como meet. Bellagio has brightly painted houses adorned with flower- filled balconies. Continue by boat to Varenna.
Day 5
Drive to St Moritz, Switzerland. Excursion to glacier of Morteratsch. Return to Italy on a spectacular train journey to Riva del Garda.
Day 6
Boat trip to the village of Limone. Walk through the beautiful Singol Valley (3-4 hours). Optional afternoon walk.
Day 7
Boat cruise on Lake Garda. Explore medieval alleys and castle of Garda. Walk along the peninsula of San Vigilio.
Day 8
Walking holiday ends this morning with a transfer to Verona.
Terrain:
Easy walking on well formed paths. The longest day is 5 hours.
